I'm planning on turning my old 10 gal tank into a nano reef. What size heater and powerhead(s) do I need for a 10 gal tank thats 20 in. wide? I'm just really not sure as far as GPH what I will need and if I would need 2 powerheads or if 1 strong one would be ok.
Also what brands are reliable as far as heater and powerheads go? I want to make sure I get it right the first time so I'm not buying the same stuff twice.

Thanks
Eric

There are a lot of good powerheads and heaters on the market. Jebo is really well regarded in the heater department...you will need to read the box and compare with your ambient room temp. when deciding on the heater to make sure it has enough juice. Your powerheads (I would say get two) need to recycle the tank water a min. of 10x per hour (more is much better) so you need at least 100gph total. I would get closer to 500. I don't know what they make at the smaller GPH ratings but both SEIO and Hydor Koralia are well regarded.

I hear a lot of good feedback about the Hydor Koralias and Aquarium System's Maxi-Jets...and definitely you want 2 for the best recreation of turbulence. the smallest Koralia unit (Koralia 1) does 400 max GPH, while the smallest Maxi-Jet does max 110 GPH (and is really inexpensive).

So would two of the Hydor Koralias be too much flow? Are they adjustable so I'm not running them both at their 400GPH max? I don't want to have the fish being blown all over the tank lol

id go with a couple of maxi-jets .... theyr a good starter powerhead without breaking the bank and can always be modded later down the road when u get more serious about it ;)

So it looks like a Maxi-Jet 900 at 230gph would probably be my best option then?
As far as heaters I was thinking about getting a Visi-Therm 100W submersible heater. I know the wattage for the heater is enough for a tank my size, but are the Visi-Therm heaters reliable? I want to make sure I get some kind of submersible heater so I will have the ability of hiding it behind my live rock.
