I recently bought a 2 gallon tank(due to living spaces), and was wondering if I need a Heater? And where would I find a heater for a 2 gallon tank? Can tropical fish live in water that is room temp.? Any help would be appreciated.

It really depends on what kind of fish you want and what the weather is like where you live. I would just to be on the safe side. Most fish will prefure it. You can buy a 7.5 watt heater from you local Wal-Mart.. Ask Honeybee105.. she has one for her tank, she can give you a good disctiption.

What kind of tank is it?

I recently set up an Eclipse Explorer (2 gallons) and the temp in the tank has stayed in the 70s even when the room temp has dropped into the 60s.  I have read elsewhere that this happens in these tanks, I can only assume that heat from the pump motor keeps the water warmed.  In which case, you might not need a heater, as many fish are fine in the 70s.

Buy a stick-on thermometer and see where your temp is before investing in a heater.  If you do think you need one I have read that the 25W Visitherms have worked well in 2 gallon tanks.

Let us know what you end up doing.

Hey I have a two gallon hex aquarium with two dwarf aquatic frogs. They prefer warmer water and I live in Minnesota where its freezing cold a lot. My mom saw this heater in Wal-Mart. Its called a "Junior Aquatics Heater" its for 2-5 gallon aquariums. Its 7.5 watts (yes they actually cum that small *twirlysmiley*) Its done a very good job at keeping it warm in my tank. It all depends on the climate you live in and what type of aquatic creature you have living in your aquarium. But its done a great job for me, it keeps the temperature very regulated. Good luck!

I also have this heater - I use it in a hospital tank.

That's really odd you have had problems with overheating.  The unit I have takes forever to get warm, and the water doesn't get above 74F.

Just goes to show you the "degree" of quality that goes into these little units... pardon the pun.
