Got a small tank for my daughter for Christmas and the 25 W heater was supposed to be Hagan...Drs Foster etc. sent an Askoll. So we were setting it up today and it is very odd on the top...doesn't look like you can adjust the temp??? Is this possible??? The Hagan was supposed to be accurate set to .25 degrees, etc and now we are looking at this thing wondering if we can control the temp.

Small tank too...about 2-3 gal, so control will be important.

Anyone know Askoll?

Thanks

Lou

Hmm...never heard of Askoll, but I know that some small heaters are set at a certain temperature...if it says its rated for a 2-5 gallon tank it will probalby keep a 3.5 gallon tank at 78, a 2 gallon at 80 and a 5 at 76...if that makes any sense. I had a little heater like that (dunno what brand) but it kicked the bucket when I forgot to turn it off before changing water one time, and it had an automatic shutoff that couldn't be turned back on (package says that...go figure)

HEY if they sent the wrong one...call, whine, and get them to send you the right one! :D

Yeah I sent in a comment saying they should send me the right unit, but I really don't want to send the other one back...I hate when web sales go wrong.

I think it might be a toggle switch on the top. Where it has min water line mark there is a line with an arrow pointing either direction with a - and a +

Maybe..but it is kind of odd...Italian company Askoll is and they seem most famous for their pumps, power heads, filter units. Can't find any support on the web about heaters...

NEVER use cheap heaters,if your askoll heater works use it.if not raise hell.i wouldn't be happy in the first place with the substituion of the askoll over the hagen.honestly though a 25 watt heater is a disaster waiting to happen.try and see if you can send back the heater and upgrade to a 50 watt heater.any time i have ever used a 25 watt or smaller heater i have had nothing but wild temp. swings and less than reliable performance.i generaly suggest to go the cheap route, but not with heaters.with heaters you get what you pay for.

You have to play with it at first, first turn all the way down(-) then turn it up until the indicator light goes on (if it doesn't have a light i don't know how you set it) then wait a while/when the light turns off and see how warm the water is then turn the dial a little bit depending on the tempeture and your target tempeture, i don't believe that you will need to work with it after this unless you put it in another tank, and then you will have to recalibrate it. good luck hope it works.

Yeah, thanks everyone...I wanted the 25W so I wouldn't overheat this little tank...and it fits in better than a 50W. I think it is a toggle switch on top, so it is too cold now, I push it to the right and the light turns on...we'll just watch it and get it calibrated and watch it for a day or two before adding fish...A single small fish maybe..

Thanks
