Do you turn all heaters counter clockwise to lower the temp? I can't tell what brand of heater this is specifically. It has no degrees or notches on it. We started out yesterday with 74 degree water after the move and this morning it was up to 83. I would like to be sure it doesn't go any higher. I would kind of like to keep the temp at about 80F.

Hello; All the heaters that I have used have adjustment screws that are righty tighty and lefty loosey. Assuming the heater hangs on the rim of the tank, that should mean that turning the knob clockwise (viewed from above)will increase the temp and counter -clockwise will lower the temp. As with everything there will be exceptions so check it out. The tubes on my heaters are clear and i can see the adjustment screw and the contact points mounted on bimetal strips. Unplug it and let it cool down, then out of the tank move the adjustment screw to se which way it colses the contact points. They also have an indicator light that are lit when the heater is on. There are probably other heater types with different operation principals. I have not used the completly sibmerged type as yet.
