hey. wow been a while since i've posted. ok well i have a 50watt Therma-Flow PC Plus Heater. it kept my tank at 70-72F which is good for my livebearers but though it is not the best but i could get through the winter without any more watts. well with this cold here in the east the hightest temp i can get is 66F and i already lost a fish due to that low temp. i am planning on getting a 150 watt Therma-Flow PC Plus Heater to add so the water can go up. the only problem is that i am worried about the blance. i would have 150 watts on one side and 50 watts on the other. would that affect it?

Note:For a fiter i have a Penguin 330. I have a power head that does 106gph that is on the other end of the tank which i put with the end where the water comes out to go twards the other side where the Penguin is. i hope this helps with the info

The thermostat is the thing that turns the heater on and off to the required temperature, so when you set it at 76, it will turn it on when it gets to like 75, then turn it off at 76. Most heaters have a light on them that goes on and off to show you when they are heating.

double up,at five watts per gallon,55 gallons that comes out to about 110 watt needed to heat the tank,so you need at leat 200 watts to be on the safe side, plus even if you never raise the temp. enough to make use of the 2 heaters,it's still better because 2 heaters will heat more evenly and reduce wear and tear than if you only used one heater.check bigalsonline.com for heaters, the prices are so cheap that even with shipping 2 heater still only cost as much as one at a retail store.
