I need a new heater for my 40G tank. What should I get, I have 14 fish so far, and 6plants.

Gallons X 10 divided by 2 = wattage

in your case 200w, set at the proper temp avg. for your fish

I dont have a particular brand to recommend but i do prefer ones that are fully submersable, That way you dont have to worry about them as much during water changes.

Tronic, Acura 1000, or Ebo Jagar are my suggestions. All are very reliable heaters, and fully submersable...

Ebo Jager all the way its keeping the perfect temperature.

Definitely Ebo Jager all the way. Visi-Therms are pretty good too, but not as good as Ebo's. Go to www.bigalsonline.com. By far the best prices I have ever found. You can get a 200watt Ebo for around $17. Pretty good deal.

I know this is an old thread, but I can not find anything called Ebo-Jagger at Big Al's. Can someone be more specific? I am looking for the best heater for a 29 gal.

Rena gets my vote, temp is stable within a degree in every tank every time I check them and they run a bit less than some of the more expensive brands. I'll never own another marineland heater gain, I had four brand new dual temps, "guaranteed accurate to within one degree, all of them ran well into the 80's at the low setting.

The Mairineland has been very reliable and it keeps the water constant temp.
