Height of Aqua C REmora MJ1200 pump

Greetings All- Does the height of the pump relative to the intake port affect the amount of gunk that is pulled out? There is currently a 6" tube connecting the pump to the port. Would it be more affective if the tube was only a few inches and thus the pump closer to the surface? THanks.

Nope, not at all. Just make sure that the pump is deep enough in the water that it does not create a venturi and start sucking in air. My pump inlet is approx 4" under the water level, and is doing fine without creating a venturi. The plastic hose is about 1.5 to 2" long.

The 'grey plastic connector' (which is 'glued' to the black skimmer box) connects to the regualr hose about 3 inches into the water. Then another 6 inches down to where the pump. So no issues with air getting sucked in. Thanks for your help.
