my friend had a 12 gallon tank and bought 12 brine shrimp, you can breed them fairly easily. They're cheap, but be careful shrimp make a good snack for bigger fish. Her shrimp lasted about two weeks (her albino clawed frog found them a good meal) So many shrimp probably willl get picked on by your fish depending on how agressive they are. But if you have docile fish than chances are they will leave your shrimp alone   (also depending on the type you get) good luck!

brine shrimp? maybe u meant ghost shrimp or amano shrimp? brine is fish food and lives in salt
i like the amano shrimp also called algea eating shrimp they're better for algae control i got six in my 30 gal(want more) it doesn't make a big impact unless u have a good amount but i also have:
1rosybarb longfinned
8 zebra danios
8 neon tetra
1 cory cat
couple khuli loaches
small pleco
1 siamese algae eater
3 otos
1 austialian rainbow
had clown loaches but they all died now :-(
they all get along and the shrimps like to hide under this driftwood and rocks in the corner
if u plant with lots of plants they should be fine just don't expect to see them often it's like finding waldo in where's waldo books lol
i first was woried b/c those shrimps are like $2.50 each around here but worth it, anyways i got a couple of ghost shrimps .25cents eachand two amano shrimp they did fine butthe ghost didn't eat algae much and they just ate fish food but the fishes didn't bother them but some reason the ghost shrimps kept dying and turning whitish pink inside, well i got more amano shrimps after that and right away they went to work on the algae,
only thing is that they are sensitive to temperature change and nitrite and ammonia levels i've had mine for about over a month now and they doing good
i'm planning on getting more once the pet shop restocks on them  *celebratesmiley*

i dunno about the upsidedown cat i use to have one when i first started wit fish and i liked it then one day my dad thought a nice big crayfish would go good with the tank next day half of the catfish was floating  :'( haven't been able to get my  hands on anymore of them but i read they eat mosqito larve and if it's big enough maybe it might make a snack of the shrimp
u can always get a couple of ghost shrimpsand see if they're not dinner for them  the ghost shrimps are about a quarter each
