New to the website, as well as the ever so addicting hobby of fish keeping. I just got started with this roughly six months ago when my wife and I were given a betta fish in a bowl. Knowing nothing about fish, I couldn't believe that a fish could survive and be healthy in a tiny little bowl so I looked around on the 'net. I couldn't find a definitive answer on the Betta issue - it seems to be relatively split. I decided however to go ahead and create a nice big home for him so we bought a 20 gallon tank and all the accessories. I did a bit of research, cycled the tank, and finally transferred the little guy over after about a month of anticipation. It was really neat seeing him swim around and to me, he seemed much happier. Unfortunately he only made it about a month longer. I hit the books and the web again to find out what I may have done wrong.
Now I've got my tank populated with 6 Tiger Barbs and 5 White Clouds (I love these guys). They've been getting along quite well and swim around together, intermingled.
I can't believe how much this hobby has grabbed me and pulled me right in. I spent a good two hours at the fish store the other day just looking around dreaming of some day owning the 150 gallon tank they've got there.
