Hello,
I have two fish tanks of community fish,. in one I had a Dutch Ram plus selection of other community fish in the other I had a Labidochromis caeruleus which I purchased after asking whether this fish was cichlid only tank, the vendor said no and that it was a very timid cichlid and would be O.K. in a quiet tank were it would not be bullied.
The Ram until recently was in a 100 litre tank and there were no problems. The Yellow labido was in a 180litre tank exhibiting no problems.
In the last week the Ram has suddenly started exhibiting extremely strong colouring and has set about my 3 clown loach (only little ones), my YL was still being nice to all of the other fish in his tank.
I was concerned about the rams behavious wondered if he was in a too confined tank so moved him to my larger tank where he started to annoy my YL.
Now a strange turn of events this evening my YL has turned the tables and exhibits a very strange tactic of circling the ram very fast then diving down and back up and biting the ram on the bottom of his chin. This has stopped the ram from being agressive but now my passive Cichlid has started harassing my angel and anything else of a reasonable size.
The water quality is good in both tanks.
But I have had a Whitespot outbreak - could this have triggered the behavioural change - any ideas on what to do other than just move the RAM back into the smaller tank?
Has anyone seen this behaviour from a YL or a RAM before.
Sorry about the length of this message.
