I think that my fish have ich! :( I've noticed white spots on some of them, but then some of the spots seemed to go away. My question is, how do I treat it? I know that you need to raise the temperature, but how high? Do I buy a medication from the petstore? I don't want to mess up my cycle if I treat it. Currently the 20 gallon tank has 4 zebra danios and 4 black neon tetras.

Raise the temp slowly to about 85 degrees, increase aeration (warm water holds less oxygen than cold water and ich can affect your fish's gill flukes) and add some aquarium salt. You'll need to do frequent gravel vacs too.

Your fish should show on the fins first normally then the body what seem to be like bruises before they turn white then the scales start flaking off... If the increase in temp and salt don't work get some ich desolvable tablets and let them desolve in a cup and make sure you read the box so that you use enough tabletsfor your tank.....now it will make your water blue but your fish will seem better with minutes my 2 oscars got ich and that's what I treated it with but no worries after a few of my weekly water changes it cleared right up!
