A friend saw it in a veteranarian's lobby tank. My friend who saw it doesn't know jack about fish, so I'm running on his description trying to figure it out.

"two of the ugliest freaking fish i have seen in a 'home' tank!! They were average size, smaller then say your hand...bit smaller than average Oscars.....anyway they were a sickly corpse white color with some mottling mixed in but they had weird fin positioning and they looked like they were all stomach....like a big ole stomach with fins and they swam upside down and did 360s on their dives....complete circles...

they were obviously healthy judging by how active they were but they were the fr33k!

have no idea what breed they were though..."

I was thinking one of those freaky white puffers (loretis?)

How do you get goldfish from that description?!

I'm going back to tending to ram wigglers now

Yeah, have to agree, the only fish I've ever known to do 360's are fish with swim bladder problems........and goldfish, well there are plenty that have the balloon bellies and the odd fins could be the kind that doesn't have the dorsal fin......'course too, the big belly could be a sign of dropsy......

Being in a vet's office, you'd think the vet would do something.....
