Hi,

I need help to identify a fish, but I don't have a picture. I saw them in a tank in the lobby of a local business. Nobody knew what they were.

It looks as though they might belong to the tetra family(not sure). They were about an inch long.

A friend, who didn't see them, suggested they might be harlequin rasbora's, but they weren't. I've had harlequins before, so I know what they look like

They had a silverish main color on their body. From the tail to about half-way or three-quarters along the center of the body there is a black stripe that goes straight and then goes down on an angle just before the gills. On top of the black stripe there is an orange or copperish color stripe that follows the black stripe from the tail to half-way or three-quarters along the body, as well, but does not go down at an angle.

Any help would be appreciated. I'd like to get some of these fish, If I can find out what they are.

Thanks in advance,
Scott

I have perused the pages of my Baensch Aquaurium Atlas, these are the possibilities I came up with if it is a tetra:

gold fin tetra (Astyanax sp. "Lago Tefe")
black neon tetra (Hyphessobrycon herbertaxelrodi)
flag tetra (Hyphessobrycon heterorhabdus)

but honestly, none of these look a lot like what you are describing...perhaps it was some type of barb? I don't know...you can google those names, maybe you will find a picture or something or someone else might know the answer to this mystery
