Hello,

I have a JBJ 35" Venice light fixture. This unit uses 2x17" 36watt Compact Flourescent bulbs.

I can't seem to find these bulbs anywhere. On of my bulbs essentially went half-dead after 4 months. That's aggravating enough. But now I can't find a replacement. None of my LFS carry them. In fact, they are having trouble even special ordering them.

And now, I can't even find them online. What gives....???

no good for me

Home Depot does me no good....

Sure, they sell a standard 48" flourescent unit....

I need a 36" unit....

So Home Depot can't fix my problem.....

Compact Flourescents

They are probably what you call Power Compacts....

Two narrow flourescent tubes attached to a plastic ballast on one end. At the far/glass end the tubes seems to be connected. Four prongs on the ballast.

thanks, and one more question

Thanks, the second one has what I need....

Not sure on the first cause they don't say the length....I'd hate to spend $60 on two 36watt bulbs only to find out they are made for a 48" fixture.

Also, what is better 6,500k daylight, or 10,000k daylight for plant growth?

Well, you could always get a 2' fixture. It would be better than the 17" one you have. Imo, probably cheaper than other fixtures you buy at pet stores.

6500K is fine! Sunlight at noon is around 5500K therefore you dont need much more than that. $60 for 2 lamps? Yikes! Why so much? I pay around $5 a lamp.

It's a 3ft (36") fixture....not a 17" fixture.

Each bulb is 17", a total of 34" these go in a 35" fixture.

And no, 48" does me no good cause I have a 36" (3ft) wide tank.

No, a 4ft tank is not good cause
a) Would necessitate too much equipment upgrades
b) Would not fit in my house
c) Is not what I want

Called B), but they only had 10k bulbs which they said would be too bright for a freshwater environment.

Will try company A)

I had the same problem. My 30G came with its own hood and a 17" lamp but the fixture was 36". The lamp costed me $25. Hardy any light so I went to Home Depot and bought a 4' fixture and lamps for $25. It hangs over 6" on both sides of the tank but didnt hurt my pocket as much and there is lots of light plus the lamps only cost around $5. This way I can spend more money on fish instead of equipment. Just my opinion and sharing my experiences.

O, just re-read your first post! You already have PC lighting. I c!

Home Depot not possible

No, this isn't the cheap 36" hood, w/17" bulb in the middle.

This is a $150 high end lighting unit. A standard unit would not give me as much light as this would. And I can't use a standard home depot fixture cause it won't fit within the Wood Canopy.

It's just that a bulb went out, and few places carry this size bulb....

I c! Sorry! That really sucks then! Im surprised that you can not find 17" PC lamps online!

When it comes to buying replacement fixtures and/or tubes, I do not 'like' the PC's and imo think that they are over priced. I have tried the 'overdriving' thing which does the same thing but without the price tag though a little work is needed which I dont mind at all.

Wish you luck!

Okay, found out that a lot of places list the size as in the fixture it fits in.

So instead of saying it's a 17" 36watt bulb, they list it as 35" 36watt bulb.

So I've found a few suppliers....*yeah*
