My 29 gal hex is finally resealed! now comes the hard part. What to put in here? here are my thoughts.

1) Sell one of my oscars (the rare molaccan) and put the other in here, giving me a free 55gal to play with :D

2) corydoras/platy community tank, fully planted,

3) guppy breeding tank (feed my Hungry Hungry Oscars)

4) pink/black convict breeding tank (mean lil' buggers though), complete with rockwork (could also feed my oscars)

5) Pleco breeding tank, fully planted with bogwood and driftwood

6) african mouthbrooding cichlid tank (a friend has a pair, i forget which ones, but they'd be cheap), complete w/ rockwork

7) Some dwarf freshwater puffers (g/f wants these bad), fully planted with native plants

8) Any other suggestions accepted!!

i have a 45gallon rated waterfall pump modified with a longer infeed tube (has worked with this tank before), and a 300 watt submersible heater, approx 35 lbs of rock, and any fixtures or plants required. NO $$$ limit! when i buy fish stuff i go all out. nothing is too good for my fishes. :D :D :D

Do you know that no plecos have ever bred in captivity? The only time they've ever bred successfully is in ponds where it is very, very natural. By very, I mean VERY. No offense, I just thought you might want to know so you don't end up wasting money. :)

And don't plecos grow to be 20 inches? Wouldn't a 29 gallon be a little small???

SheepdogLover you are right if you are talking about common pleco's but there are hundreds of kinds of plecos and some do breed. she was propably not going 2 get common plec's.

i would do an odd-ball tank. i love odd balls. this sounds good
2 peacock eels
4 affrican butterfly fish
3 plecos (not common)
4 amazon bumblebee catfish
and 2 chipokae cichlid

Since it is a hex tank it should have nice highth on it. You could fit a nice breeding (or not breeding) pair of Angel fish in there with some Corys and possibly a few Hatchets!! (Go for the Amazon Style!!!!!)

well, this is my 3rd attempt @ posting this. the Oscar in consideration is from a stunted parentage. his parents are both over 10 yrs old and under 12'' (in a 160 with 3 small african mouthbrooders and a pleco). None of their offspring has grown to over 10 inches in the 6 years they have been breeding. i am planning to buy another 55 gallon in another month anyways ( an old friend has a few Tanks that are sitting unused for the 3rd year now...MINE).

Also...Peacock Eel, i am a MALE. my G/f is mentioned in both my post and my sig...lol...you are forgiven. i have no luck with any Eels unfortuneately (lost 11 fish to the last one.), and have no experience with butterfly fish. also, a fellow local has bred plecos, and has a few pairs that i know for a fact have bred (seen the eggs and fry!! HA!).

Amazon Tankz- i hate FW angelfish, no offense, and hatchets in my area always die (bad suppliers). Corys are a fav of mine though.

The Convicts sound kool to me, and since they breed steadily, i can feed my oscars more easily than i can with my damnable "Guppy farm" (my platies Will NEVER be oscar chow...i isolated a new strain...heheh).
Well tanks everybody (pardon the bad pun). Keep the opinions coming!

number two come on how can there be a choice corys are too cute(yes i know i am a guy but i just love corys)i would go with swordtails instead of platys but thats because they are easer to find in wild colors.lets get this straight many plecos have been spawned in captivity, heck it's a fairly simple to get them to spawn if you know your fish and give it the right food and appropriate place to spawn.bushynose plecos are even reccomended for first time beeders of egg laying fish.i can't wait for the day i order some zebra plecos and breed those.

I agree with AmazonTankz, with the experience you have with Oscars, you can now set up an Amazon Tank including Angels, severums, Bronchis Splendums (the Hog Nose and larger ones), Hatches, and the Amazon style plants etc. It is a great look. You can also combine real plants with the new silk made fake ones to create a great look.

If you like Oscars, you will enjoy Severums even more because they are more peaceful and can share the tank with many other fishes.

Sounds like you are going to have a lot of fun, whatever you decide to do.

Beaker......... free convicts? I live on the North Shore. If I can't handle them in my tank then a friend of mine is re-setting up a tank. Minimum requirements are? I'll do some research but if you are interested in a swap let me know.

Free Cons...

Yup, I got 3 cons, two females and a male, between 1.5-2", that I'm looking to offload... They've spawned before, and I just want to free up some room & not have to deal with them laying eggs & terrorizing the tank... (I have two more I'm keeping who have fry, getting around .5 in long, and I will probably be looking to give away the babies once they get bigger...)....

I've been thinking about either swordtails or mollies actually, got any extra?

Swordtails....... just had a "litter." Mollies...... just had a "litter." Could swap either some of the adult size or the 2 week old fry. Have a net full of about 12-15 babies of mixed variety. I believe the mollies are gold dusts or dalmations. Some are white and the rest gold although the gold ones could be swords. Also have adult mollies, adult swords, and 2 juvie dalmation mollies. Sounds like we have a swap to be arranged. I sent you my email via message. Later!
