Is there anyway to save a fish that's swiming sideways, and upsidedown???

It looks like his fins are shredding.....and he's wobbleing around...

none of the other fish are doing this

Is this an amonia problem???

Maybe from too much food?

Sounds to me like it is Swimbladder disease

"Most common in "pot-belly" shaped breeds of fish, such as goldfish & parrot cichlids due to blockage and insufficient fiber/vegetable matter in the diet. However, many fish that suffer trauma or excess stress, or just get an internal bacterial infection that occurs on or around the swim bladder may have problems. Baby fish fry that have swim bladder problems are commonly known as "belly sliders" (most scoot around the bottom fo the tank, unable to swim up, or spin uncontrollably in the water). It is still unknown if this is the same exact disease entity or what the cause is, but most attribute it to congenital or developmental causes, sometimes birth defects, premature birth or inadequate nutrition at certain stages. They should be culled to prevent suffering.

Most swimming problems like you're describing are caused by water quality issues, so yes it could well be from a level of ammonia higher than 0, or overfeeding (which can cause an ammonia or nitrite spike in the tank) Best way to deal with it is to euthenize the fish that is affected and step up your water changes and maintenance on the tank. You should be changing about 35% of the water once a week and doing gravel vacs....more if the tank is less than a couple months old and still cycling.

hi froggy last months PFK said " you could try moving the fish into an isolation tank with shallow water 6"-8" at a temp of 5c above its present temp . if there is no improvement in a couple of days and depending on the cause antibiotics can work for both gut and swimbladder problems , but only in some cases " antibiotics from vet . good luck

Hi Sutty, thanks. I dont know what PFK is...but yes, you can try isolating the fish and treating it...but usually once they're as bad as described above they're probably beyond help.

if it is swim bladder disease, there isn't much you can do.

try feeding a cooked pea, that may help if the fish is um...constipated, which can spur swim bladder disease.

other than just letting him wobble around, there's not much you can do......

:(

Yes, there's nothing wrong with the tank. All the others are fine.
We are almost positive he got swim bladder....
We've cut down on feeding, and up on water changes.
Everything seems good.
