Help sexing some cichlids.

I need some help on sexing a convict and jack dempsey.

The convict is a little over an inch. I would like to breed it. i assume it will only breed with like barred convicts. If they will breed with pink, calico or marbled please tell me.

The jack dempsey i dont plan on breeding but would like to know. he (lol) it is about 2.5". I asked for a male but i dont think the lfs really cared what i got. got it at when it was round 1.5".

You really can't sex convicts till about 2". Convicts will breed with convicts.......doesn't matter what color. With my Black X Black pair, i got some pink convicts. Great for beginner breeding (convicts) REALLY easy. If you don't get them to breed....stop the hobby. haha. j/k

With your convict i'd say its gonna be a female. See the orange scales starting to develop on the sides? Indication of a female.

For your JD...its very hard to sex them at a young age. If i had to guess i'd say you had a male JD. Just because of the pointed dorsal fin.

thanks for your help. you got the same anwser as the other forums. Female convict and the jd is to young to determine.
