Help with a new tank

I have a 30 gallon tank that I want to plant and make a community tank. I am new to this, so i really don't know where to get started.
Right now I have gravel substrate and 2 albino cories.

can anyone point me to a good website or name of a book that will give me good info on starting a planted community?

when adding new fish from the store, should i have a seperate tank that i put them in for a few days before adding them to my bigger tank?
