Help with my Bangai Cardinal

My Cardinal seems to have something wrong with him. There appears to be strings of "slime" with white spots in it coming off of him. It sometimes is attached to his body and mouth area too. It floats in the water off of his body, then when he moves it comes off and the filter gets it. He's acting normal and eating fine now. I did have a HUGE ammonia spike, but have since gotten that back under control. Any ideas what it is, and how I can cure it?

If he's eating that's good. It could be a body slime reacion to the NO2 or a diesease, not sure. Cure number 1 - ammonia to zero

Are any of the other fish showing any signs of anything?

He's the only fish in the tank. The only other inhabitants are a blue leg hermit and a red leg hermit. the crabs seem fine and are eating well.

How long is it since the ammonia spike went away? Do you know what caused it in the first place?

I think wayne is probably right, and it should be OK in a few days. You could add some stress coat in the meantime.

It's been about 2 days or so. I'm really not sure....I added some more live rock, so maybe it had some die off or something. Everything seems to be getting back to normal again now. I was just worried that I was going to lose him to sickness.

No stresscoat please! It's already producing ample slime without this irritant! Good conditions and low stress are the best cure I think
