A couple of weeks ago I bought a new angelfish and brought it home. I already had one angelfish and when I put the new one in the tank, the previous one always picked on the new one. Nipping at it and biting at its fins- it never stopped!! Then for awhile they got along and didnt fight. Now the NEW one has started picking on the PREVIOUS one. What does it mean? What can I do to help stop the fighting?
Also I think the previous one is about to lay eggs because I see a breeding tube and she is quite large in the front area. could this be the cause of their fighting?

This means the master has become the apprentice!!!

Also, usually you won't see the breeding tube unless there is a male there that is going to help her do her business. Probably just her poop chute sticking out and when I had angels both were large in the abdomen. Usually means they have been eating alot.

Really the only thing I can suggest is that you take both back to the LFS and get 2 small ones that you can raise up. Usually they tolerate eachother more when they are brothers and sisters.

I don't. You had a female. You bought a small, she kicked his butt. He grew, they paired, he's bossing her around, they will spawn

When angelfish pair up one doesn't attack the other. I had a pair spawn in one of my tanks and the way I could tell they paired up was because they were not fighting. As a matter of fact, they were the only pair over 2" big that I had ever kept that did not fight. So I really doubt that they will spawn
