HELP

My son dumped a 1lb box of salt into my 29gal tank. My fish store said to only take out half of the water is that correct? I don't want any of my fish to die someone please help!!!!

I don't think any of the fishes in your aquarium prefer saltwater. Other than maybe your molly, I'd say the other fishes would be uncomfortable. I don't know how to treat your tank now that its full of salt.

do a 40% water change, then wait like an hour and do another like 30-40% water change... You dont want to do a huge water change because it will shock the fish form the large change in conditions.

What kind of salt did he drop in, table salt or specific salt from your lfs?

I agree with OCCFan. If you do to big of a water change then you will shock the fish. Good Luck!!!

Well mollies and glassfish prefer a little salt. Depending on the salt I say go with OCCfan. Don't change it too quick but don't wait forever either

I did a 50% water change this morning and then I will be doing one this evening. It was aquarium salt, but they seem to be doing fine so maybe all is well. Thanks for the advice.

was it FW salt (for say, treating sickness) or was it marine salt like Instant Ocean?
good luck. if you had a refractometer or hydrometer, you could have measure the salinity/specific gravity and seen just how bad your situation is. most fish would be fine in say, 5ppt salinity... might want to take a sample to your LFS.
