I brought my 2 apple snails home from school and temporarily stuck them in my 20 gallon with 4 mollies. The snails are supposed to go back to my dorms at the end of spring break this sunday. The problem is, within the 4 days that they've been here, I found eggs. I need to transport the eggs back to school with me, and somehow situate them above the waterline in my ten gallon. It's an hour drive, and I'm not really sure how to pull this off. Any suggestions?

Well I'm not sure if temperature matters but bagging them and keeping them moist should be sufficient.
I'm not sure how you'd go about sticking them above the waterline either.Maybe float them on a bit of sponge or something.

thats a pretty good idea TLH

or, if the eggs are sticky (idk, I've never had to delt with eggs before), maybe just try and stick them in the top corner just inside the hood?

i wouldn't try my idea, but just a suggestion (aka go with TLH's, lol)

Where are the eggs right now? I dont think they do so well if you unattach them and then reattach them somewhere else... I think as long as they stay moist but not wet and not dry they'd be ok...maybe wrap them in a damp paper towel or something??

the eggs are still in my 20 gallon at home. i'm not leaving here until sunday afternoon. i was thinking of floating them in the bottom of a styrofoam cup with the top of the cup cut off. eek. lol. i've never had snail eggs before. i'm really excited!

another thing.. how long does it take for them to hatch? they can't be more than about 3 days old, so they'll be a week old when i move them. i dont want babies dropping into my 20 gallon at home before i take them back up to school.

no no dont get them all wet! I think mine took a good week or two to hatch, it was quite awhile. you could look on www.applesnail.net and see if they have anything regarding moving egg clusters??

BUT also, if you just choose to toss it or something goes wrong, once they've laid eggs they'll probably do it again not too long.

Edit: oops thats what happens when you get distracted. GOOD ADVICE TLH ;)

oops i meant floating the styrofoam cup in the 10 gallon, and then have the eggs rest in the bottom of the cup. this is after i get back to school. i'll probably do the damp paper towel thing in a bag, and then put them in the cup when i get back to school. thanks!
