My male swordtail is dying I think...I don't know what to do. He was just sitting in the bottom corner of the tank...he's still alive, but he's not swimming around like usual. He isn't breathing rapidly like I've seen them do before...I scooped him out and put him in my ten gallon by himself, as soon as I put him in...he swam to the back corner and is laying back there right now... what do I do... someone please help!

How are your ammonia, nitrites, nitrates and ph? (if ammonia or nitrites are not zero, or if nitrates are high, that's your first place to start) How big is the tank, what fish live in it, and what kinds of other things are in there? This will help people figure out the problem.

I'm curious what other people think about moving fish that look sick. In some ways it seems like a good idea and in other ways a bad idea, and I've wondered about that in my own tanks. Any definitive answers?

ammonia is at zero, nitrites are at little under .2, ph is at 7.2, I'm not sure about nitrates, I don't have a test kit for them...

The tank is 20 gallons, in it I have two swordtails..a male and a female... and two 2 in bala sharks... all I have is fake plants and stuff...

I've had him and the female for somewhere around 2-3 months, the two bala sharks I've had for somewhere around two to three weeks... I don't need the lecture on how they will get to big for the 20 gallon...cause I know they will, Ill deal with that when the time comes, I have a friend who's husband owns a fish store...so I can always give him the fish.

As for my swordtail though...I don't know what to do, someone please help!

I did a waterchange when I got home hoping that it was just something in the water like nitrates, or nitirites, or something like that...

I havent seen any spots or weird coloration...but he kinda sorta lays in the plants...I dont know if that classifys as rubbing up against them. He just lays on the bottom too. when I fed them tonight he did swim up and get some food. But it looked like it took a lot of effort to do it.

awwwww! I'm really sorry to hear that:( maybe he was just a weakling, I'd only start to really worry about it if the rest of the fish in the tank start to act up.

none of the others seem to have any problems...when he was laying on the bottom they would just swim up to him and look at him funny...kinda like, what are you doing...come one, lets go play... I'll go buy his replacement today or tomorrow...more likely tomorrow since I work today...but yeah. Thanks for the help guys..
