Okay all, here are my questions...please reply if you have an answer for me:
1. My fish is a black shark (a bottom feeder) and he has been just kind of "sitting" in the same spot all the time, but then all of a sudden he'll get real erratic and swim all around. Then he'll go back to that same spot and stay there. What is he doing? Or is this normal?
2. There is some kind of white film developing on the top of the water in my tank. When I tried to scoop it up, it was white and thick. What do I do to get rid of this? I just cleaned my tank and that's when it happened.
3. How much food should I be giving my fish as he gets bigger? I've been feeding him about 20 shrimp pellets once a day (the people at Petsmart told me to feed him once a day) but what do you all do? Should I feed him smaller quantities a few times a day? He is about 6 inches long right now...what is the correct amount to feed him and how often? I don't want to overfeed him and I'm afraid that I am.
4. My fish likes to move the gravel around and he doesn't seem to like gravel where he likes to "sit"....is this normal or is this a sign of some kind of disease.
Thank you all...I hope you have some answers for me!

I have never kept a black shark, but I know they get very big.

I also know that 20 shrimp pellets is a lot of food for a 6 inch fish!

I would put maybe 5 in, followed by maybe one other kind sinking food that has some vegetable in it.

I would guess where he is moving the gravel around is where he is setting up territory.

When he shoots out into the tank, then returns to home, he is probebly a bit scared yet.Give him time.

What size tank is this in?

They will not get along with other sharks(red-tail, rainbows, black ), and you will have to keep any fish you add kind of on the large size, since the shark can get very big.

The film is probebly proteins from either lack of agitation on the surface, and/or the 20 shrimp pellets add daily.

I would try to feed him in the general same location with sinking foods, and make sure you vaccuum there every water change a lot. The might help with the surface and ease the cleanning.

Make sure your ammonia, nitrItes, and nitrAtes are in check.
