here's another reason not to release fish into the wild

#3
Surviving the winter is rather a shock. But, come summer, and that water averages about 80 degrees down to about 15 - 20 feet, I'm thinking any fish that can outrun/hide the striper would do pretty well. I wonder how they caught that pleco? I caught a snapping turtle up in Iceberg Canyon about 20 yrs ago (on the Arizona side, 10 miles east of Temple Bar Marina). That was freaky.

yea a friend of ours has caught snappers before too.i figure a pleco got by on it's thorny outside, too hard to eat.if you go to rodgers springs you can catch convicts and severums.some jerk dumped those in some time ago.when i was young we went to rodgers springs and there were a bunch of painted glassfish that had been dumped in too. who need a lfs when you can catch 'em yourself and do the enviroment a favor too.

I dont see why introducing fish to a new part of the world or river/lake is such a bad thing. What is the down side of this?

I dont see anything wrong with it and if anything its better because its incerces their numbers!

introducing fish to different areas most of the time hurts the native fish in that area, sometimes to the point that the native fish are no longer found in their habitat

they can upset the ecosystem thats why people do not like it...and when they try to correct the situation it takes years and lots of money to set things right...and then sometimes its too late :(

I think its sad that people 'release' their pet fish in to the wild. I'm suprised that they can even survive in cold/hot water thats unclean with larger fish and birds just waiting to snack on the fish. I know that these fish orriginate from rivers and lakes, not tanks, but that is what the fish is used to and the only world it knows. Like Beaver said, there are always LFS's that welcome taking fish from peoples hands who can no long provide the correct environment for them, there really is no need to make the fish suffer.

down here in south florida the environment is being trashed by all kinds of exotic species, exotic fish compete with the native species for food and habitat, if a native and an introduced species occupy the same niche one will suffer and this is almost always the native species who have natural predators while the exotic continues to reproduce and take over

LOL.

Do a quick search on google for "Nile Perch Lake Victoria" and your question will be answered my friend.

was just going to post that somonas, a great example of why it should never been done (cant believe i didnt think of it before),nile perch were introduced to provide food for people living on and near the lake, since its introduction it has already caused the extinction of over 350 species of victorian cichlids, many are still in danger from them

mmm.. But what i would really like to know is, ifyou catch the fish from there natural habitat let's say a blakc molly then release it out to the wild at the same area, would it hurt the fish? Then what if you have you'r own pond in the backyard, but you alrady have fish living in there like normal fish lets say sunfish and then you put tropical fish in there, is that illgegal? What if there is a huge pond environment made -pond on you'r property, is it illegal then?

I've never put fish in the wild, but i have caught a frog then put it in a pond, with a lot of geese, wasn't my idea :(
