Well, for you guys and gals that have already seen Flame, here's current pictures of him. For those of you who are new here, he is a 15 inch Fire Eel. He was 2.5 inches when I bought him about 19 months ago. He's now broke the 15 inch mark, and still growing, eating 2 bloodworm cubes a couple days a week, and a single cube the other days of the week. The cost of the bloodworms is getting higher, and higher, and higher, lol, as I have to feed him more, and more, and more, LOL.

Also, in the pics you will also see some of his battle scars, lol. It's the battle between him and the Emperor 400 biowheel, when he goes in there during the day, lol. He may have beaten me, but I think the biowheel is beating him up, lol. This weekend I'm going to Lowe's to see about getting a long, 2" black PVC to put down behind the shipwreck for him, a nice and dark place to hide. Maybe that will help keep him out of the filter, lol.

looks cool as hell! is it fresh water? I'd like to get one once I get my 55 gallon.

Yes, he's Freshwater, and can also handle low end brackish. They do like a little salt in the water, but it's not required. Just be aware, they get to 44+ inches, and require a huge tank. I'm still in the planning stages of either a 265G or a 300G Wide.

wow that is big... hope you like eel...lol j/k. Very nice looking eel, he gets inside the filter? why not put screen or something over intake to keep him out?

He doesn't go up the intake, lol. It's got a screen and he'd get chopped by the impeller, lol. He swims up where the output is, goes in under the biowheel and into the compartment, lol. Eel Condo, lol.

And to think my Tiger Barbs are nearly 3 inches and the rainbow sharks are 5 inches, lol.

do they have a tendancy to eat ur fish?

Nope, not even the small fish. And I know someone who has one in a cichlid tank and shares the cave with the cichlids and fry. But when they get bigger, it may change. All I know is what I've experienced so far, up to this size and age.

Oh, and still trying to figure out how to use my new camera, lol. It's a Nikon D70s Digital SLR with a 6GB Microdrive. And 3 lenses.

I think I paid $15.99 for mine, but not sure, been a while. Also, their lifespan is not really known for sure yet, but has been estimated at 20+ years.

is your filter output under water?Or is he sticking his head out of the water to get in it?Im confused.Thats a really big fish.44" is a little to big for me to fit in my tank with my other fish.

It's a HOB filter. The water runs up into the compartment with the filter pads, then over the edge back into the tank. The output is not under water, no. It's above the water, like a waterfall. Kind of like a salmon swimming up a waterfall, but much easier, lol. Once he's in the current of the falling water, he gives a kick with his tail and he slips right under the biowheel and into the filter compartment, lol. Then at night, he slips back under the biowheel and the water pushes him out and into the tank.
