I've been doing a tad bit of reading on some different bracksih setups and I've seen a few that have sugested some hermit crabs for a brackish tank. On these particular setups the SG was higher, above 1.010.

Is this just a plain bad idea, or can it work out ok? Is there any known ill effects to the crabs from not being in full marine waters?

Interesting question...I have no idea.

I went to my friend google and asked...the references to brackish and hermits seem to be talking about land hermit crabs, and the pond area for them to get into seems to be suggested brackish.

Like aresgod said, It should work, the thing is youd need to get the species that live in the salt marshes and the like. Whenever I am at the beach I see them scuttling around low tide in brackish water.

The thing is, being tidal, Im not quite sure if they would live fully submerged or need to go on land occasionally.
