I'm new to the forum and to keeping an aquarium (just got my first one 2 months ago). I have a 10 gal. tank with 2 balloon bellied mollies (one of which just had fry 4 days ago), a fiddler crab, a small algea eater, and 3 anacharis plants. I am very excited about joining the forum.

Welcome to the tank :)

I am afraid that the fiddler crab was not a good choice:-

1. needs to be able to access land
2. needs brackish water (salty water - ok for the mollies but not the algae eater)
3. can prey on small fish

welcome! I had a fidler crab a loooooong time back when I was a teenager. I made two mistakes, there.
1. I had a ten gallon tank with no "land" for the little guy
2. I underestimated the spider-like appearance of him and how much he would creep me out...like climbing up the heater and getting this-close to escaping the tank.
I returned it pronto to the LFS.

Sidenote: I HATE SPIDERS! They totally gross me out, I dont care how small or how big...yuck!

But welcome to the tank, Erica! You will learn so much from all these people, it's one of the smartest groups around!!!!:D

hi erica, Follow the instructions on the box, if it says add one tablespoon per five gallons, and your water change = 2 1/2 gallons, then add 1/2 table spoon to the new water you add. Salt doesnt evaporate or get filtered out, so you need to add it back into the water you replace.
by the way, are you using regular aquarium salt or marine salt? Just curious.
