My 6 year old pl*co has some little black spots on his fins. I've read that it is probably Digenetic Flukes. I was already treating my clown loach for ich with maracide when I noticed the spots. My question is now that my loach is better should I continue treatment for the flukes or will they go away naturally. My pl*co looks and acts normal aside from the spots. Any help welcome.

Actually I am treating the whole tank. I put in a betta about a two weeks ago a few days later the loach got ich then a few days after that I noticed the dark spots on my pl*co. So now after a week and a half my loach is better but the pl*co still has spots. Should I up the doesage a little. I try not to over medicate.
-Thanks

Aquamat, how is your pleco doing.
If you use medications, you should use them for the whole duration of treatment. especially for bacterial infections.

Stuff from this point doesnt' relate to your pleco and your flukes - it is more like general advice for medicating.

if you are told you use tetracycline for example for 7 days.. and it goes away in 2, keep using it for 7 days.. this is so none of the bacteria that survive after the first 2 days become resistant to future doses of tetracycline...

sound a bit confusing but take the package instructions... over dosing moderately is good, under dosing is bad.

let's say you have a 10 gallon tank with rocks and gravel.. there is only really about 7 gallons of water in there, but go ahead and use 1 dose per 10 gallons... whatever the package says... I am not sure if this Rule of Thumb applies to salt water. apparently some species are really sensitive to copper.

Thanks for asking. My Pl*co looks fine, he still has some spots but I can tell they have slowly been fading. You're correct, I should have continued treatment. My loach got worse, Ick guard II does not work! I switched to Ick-ease a week ago and today was the first sign of improvement. Poor little guy, he was covered with ick. He's about 4 years old and was strong befor all of this happened so I think he'll pull through. I noticed some snails in my tank from some new plants, maybe that will get him eating again. My other fish are all doing great and the plants are growing. I'll continue treatment for a while still. Thanks for the help.
