High Nitrite after cleaning gravel

After cleaning my gravel using my Magnum HOT Filter my Nitrite count is very high.  I have no Ammonia present.  I know that stiring up the Gravel will do this but is there anyway to get it back down quickly besides doing water changes?  I don't want anything to happen to my Cichlids.  Has anyone used the NitraZorb type of products to quickly get rid of it?
Thanks for your help,

Bob

Bob,

After you vacced your substrate, what did you do with the foam around your filter("carbon container")?

Also, what is in the "carbon" container inside the filter?

I rinsed out the Blue filter when I was finished.  The carbon container has an ammonia remover + regular carbon Mix.  I did buy a nitrazorb bag today and also I have done another water change and still the Nitrites are very high 5ppm.
Thanks for your help,

I think that ammonia tends to be a little more concentrated towards the bottom of the tank. Maybe this has something to do with it? You might be stiring chemicals up from the botttom that makes it spike. It`s just a guess though...
