Hi everyone. After years of giving the fish tank a break, I pulled it back out and established myself a nice 40 gallon community tank.
Since I've been 'on vacation' I'm very excited to read that the new school of thought is to leave your pH alone rather than trying to constantly adjust it. Cool!
Anyways, my community fish are thriving, but I'm thinking future. These little guys don't last forever and I'm ready to kick it up a notch. I'm looking to do discus in a planted tank, or possible something else if pushed in the right direction.
So, my normal pH is generally 8.0. What kind of fish naturally do well in high pH? No salt water, please. That's kicking it up a few too many notches for me. LOL! Also, I have a 40 gallon tank now, am I going to have a difficult time doing a planted tank in such a small space? Don't tempt me too hard to go buy that 75 gallon I want.... Also, I want a canister filter. My sister got one for her turtles and I am just in LOVE with how quiet and peaceful her tank is!
So, in a nut shell. 40 gallons, high pH. What can I do that's not just a basic community tank that will take the hobby up a bit for me?
Thanks!
Niki
