High PH

I just set up a new saltwater tank and my ph is around 8.6. I checked my tap and its around 7.5-8. IS this too high and if so how can I lower it.

Did you add any additives to your water? What kind of salt did you use, and what's your salinity like? Your pH shouldn't be that high, 8.2 is about the highest I've seen recommended. Have you checked your test kit against a different one? Maybe you can get your LFS to test the water for you, and see what they think. I'm not sure how you can lower your pH other than to do a water change. If you have salt water made up for a water change, what is it's pH? Just trying to get a better handle on what's going on.

THe salinity is 1.021 at 75 degrees. I used instant ocean for salt. The only additive I added was a tap water purifier. I am planning on taking it to a fish store because my tester indicates my tap water is around 8.0 which seems high right out of the tap.

ya you got a point there some kits become ouut of code when they are older than 1 or 2 years just buy a new one
