HITH - which meds ?

Looks like one of my Oscars has hole in the head - below her eyes, both sides (see pic).

Tried her in a tank with good water parameters, and fed her vitamins for a week - no change. Tried broad range anti-biotics - no change, tried a specific hith med call Oxy something or another - some improvement but not a lot.

First question has to be - is this hith ? looks like ulceration, not too deep, pinkish in places.

Second question - what meds should I try on her next ?

I'm pretty sure you keep your tanks clean and your fish fed with a variety of foods. One thing I read says it can be caused by a parasite. http://www.2cah.com/pandora/Disease.html#HITH They recommend a med containing the ingredient mentronidazole.

I guess it's possible it's another disease. Maybe someone else has seen it before.

nice link fred - thanks - (hadn't heard of the possible carbon connection before, but there has been carbon pack movement in that tank - post med etc)

Lotus - yep - she's in the cleanest tank I've got, and I make sure they all get their flakes before pigging out on prawns (and whatever I'm eating at the time). I'll dose her up again with mentronidazole. She's not in distress, but I can't ignore this.
