Homemade gravel cleaner

I made a gravel cleaner, Only Cost $3 vs $8 at wal-mart, this homemade one has bigger tubing and picks up more. All parts bought from Home Depot. Here are some pics.

Looks good you might find that with a bigger hose more water gets taken out faster while you're cleaning than you want to...but hey if it works thats awesome.

Water doesnt come out to fast, works good, borrowed a friends and this one i made gets more waste out then the one he had.

What do you use as a pump to suck the water out? Also, how much do normal gravel cleaners (with pump) cost?

its self starting, push into gravel a few times and the water starts flowing, with pump they cost $25 or more, going to figure out how to make a pump for this one, works as is for now

Does the gravel cleaner just suck up the waste, old food, etc off the surface of the gravel or does it take gravel in with it too??

Sucks up waste and old food really good, gravel doesnt go throught the tube, only goes half way in to the bottle like it should, works better than the store bought ones

Petsmart has gravel cleaners for 2.99. not as creative as yous though.

And yes, I was kidding about the Pepsi thing (as far as I know, Home Depot only carries Coke products, Lowe's on the other hand does carry Pepsi), and your creation is certainly innovative.

I dunno about bigger being better when it comes to gravel cleaners. I have them in a variety of sizes for different tanks. It's almost impossible to use the "extra-large" size on a small tank.

I know that I could never clean as well as I wanted with a gravel cleaner that was too big for the tank.
