Does anyone have any idea where I could get a new hinge for my 40 gallon stretch hex hood? Mine is broken and I'm in need of a new one. Mind you, I don't need new glass, just the hinge. Any info would be great. Thanks.

It looks like I will have to check at Home Depot. My local fish store doesn't sell the hinge and the company of the website will only replace their products. Thanks guys for you help. Panther28, is your replacement pretty close to the original plastic hinges that come on an all glass aquarium?

I dont know if the home depot in your area will have the plastic hinges. But even if you dont get them you could find some metal ones and bolt them in place. Home depot have many types of hinges. if dont find what your are looking for just order them on the internet. The one i got are very different from the ones i had before just had to change all of them at once.

If you can't find the plastic ones you are looking for. Like Panther said you can get a metal one. I would look for a brass piano hinge. If you get a metal one, brass or aluminum is what you need, Anything else will rust.

I don't know how you would bolt them to a glass hood, then again I may be unfamiliar with the kind of hood you are using. I would just silicone it to the glass. It should hold and if done with care not to use too much (to avoid excess) it shouldn't look to bad.

Forgive me if I seem a little slow*crazysmil  , but how would you attach a metal hinge to a glass top? I think that if I try to bolt it on it will break the glass.

Nobody you are not slow. It is me who is slow. you will defintly have problems attaching the metal hinges to the glass. My aquarium top was not actually glass it was plexi glass. so i just drilled holes in them. Their are some special drills which can drill in to glass. I think! What i think you can do is when you go to home depot ask them if they know a way to drill holes in glass. I think their are some kits you can get. Not sure though. Just ask at home depot i am sure they might help you with that. Sorry I had not read your post clearly.
