I want to create a hospital tank out of a 29 gal. What I want to do is divide the 29 in half and have one side salt and one side fresh. What I want to know is. Do I need to a filters for both sides or can I use a alternative for filteration. I plan to have crush coral on the salt side and just standard gravel.

As what I've read, usually people don't put substrates in hospital tanks. You need to tear down and clean up the whole setup after the treatment is over anyway.

Don't use gravel in a hospital tank. Gravel is where organisms may bery well hibernate, waiting for new victims.

It sounds fesable, but might be very difficult, to do the salt/fresh combo you are recommending. Better to simply get two seperate five gallon tanks for q-tanks.
