Y'all had mixed reviews and some complaints about the Eclipse 3 hood.   *thumbsup2* *thumbsdown2*

Another option could be to buy a top fin 29G glass aquarium that comes with a hood at my local petsmart (didn't check what kind of light is in there) and add a Penguin 170 filter.

What are you experiences/opinions with something like that?

I have a 29 gal with penguin 170.  No major complaints, kinda loud when the water level drops a little.  The Bio wheel works pretty well, stops spinning occasionally but usually only because a snails crept up on it.

Hope that helps!

i  just don't like the filter pads the cost is enormus for the longevity of the pad,and they don't ofter the option no carbon.if you can find a kent marine dealer near you they just released a retofit filter pad/sponge that is reuseable.they claim that 1 sq.inch of the sponge is equal to appx.700 bioballs
i really don't care about all that but the idea of a reuseable sponge with a bio-wheel...think of all the money saved on overpriced cartridges.the catch, they only make it for the emperor400 not such a bad thing after all.i like aquaclear filters cause when i do waterchanges i just put the foam blocks in the old water rinse out the crud and then like new but with most the old bacteria, not a fresh uncultured cartridge.
