dempsey's are normally considered a medium aggressive cichlid, meaning that they will defend their territrory violently, but wont go trying to pick fights with other fish. in a 90g i think you 2 severums and a jd will beable to live happily together, but i am not sure what a polypterus is, sorry.

From what i've read jacks are supposed to be agressive. My Jacky lives with big catfish and they are close buddies, but, of course, it does not mean anything.
My guy is easily getting freaked out. Today, for example, some shadow scared him and he tried to dig into the gravel with huge force and got himself big scratch on forehead. Now I have to treat him with Pimafix.:-(

I forgot to tell that the cat and the Jack are competing for same cave, one that stays off current. Jacky is getting very annoyed with the cat when he sits in the cave digesting his meal and the cat swims in and tries to nudge him out or even rest his tail on Jacky's head. The cichlid kind of bites the cat very lazily as any big dog would bite some annoying puppy. The cat ignores it completely and continues whatever he set out to do.
They are funny pair. I cannot wait until the tank ages a little bit, sot that every thing settles down and everybody live happily.
