How do you know which one is a male and a female?

oh.. err.. guppies.. and bettas

bettas... tha males have the big fins if they are the common kind you find in stores... and the cups say MALE or FEMALE. thats usually a dead give away... and guppies i think males have a pointier anal fin. not sure on that one though.

In both cases, the male will be "fancier" looking (Assuming we're talking about fancy guppies)

Female bettas are a lot less common than males, and the don't have the long flowing fins.

Female fancy guppies are rather drab, while the males will have much more color, particularly on the tail.

With guppies males have more colourful tails and a pointed anal fin, females are bigger and have a brown/black spot near their anal fin (gravid spot), they have a fan- shaped anal fin

male guppies if you look on bottom will have a fin pointing straight back towards their tail...

female guppies will not.


This is true for all livebearing fish from what google has told me.
