How do you determine the sex of RD?...

I have what I believe is a female Red Devil, but I am not totally sure.
I do know that once the males mature they grow a knot on their heads.
What is another way to determine the sex. Thanks.

This probably won't help, but males also grow larger than the females, particularly a bit longer in length than the females of this species. They are much more powerfully built, with a large growing bulge on the forehead being the norm called a 'Nuchal' hump.

radamsk1 pretty much said everything, rd's aren't as easy to sex as a lot of the similar cichlids, it will become more obvious with age what gender she/ he is though

Thank you phooey and radamsk1.
The reason that I asked is that the RD is very territorial
and seem to constantly show dominance over the Wolffish and
Redtail Catfish. I was thinking that she might need a male to
calm her down.

My tank is 35g.
I am in the process of purchasing a 100g-135g
tank so that I can separate the RD from the others.
Are there any suggestions as to where I could purchase
an aquarium at a reasonable price?
Thanks.

red devil

I have two red devils...both female....They are both about 6 inches and the one is active laying eggs. She will fight with anything that comes to close to her!!! Including attacking the side of the tank when somebody walks by. I had too separate the two ...just to keep a little peace in the tank.

150 gal main tank
55 gal heater and such tank
40 gal bio sump and return
