How long do betta bubble nests usually last?

My betta has been working on a very large bubble nest for the past few days, and every time I come near his tank he rushes over to flare up at me. I don't want to mess his bubbles up because he's been working quite hard on it, and he gets quite upset at me when he think I'm coming to mess it up. The only problem is, his tank is getting filthy, and I'd like to get in there to clean it. So will the bubbles just 'pop' after a while?

The bubbles probably won't pop, although they do if the betta stops working on it. Cleaning the water will only give him the opportunity to build a better nest . It should also encourage him to build a new one anyway.
