I just bought a new eheim ecco filter. I hooked it up to a tank that’s been running fully cycled for several months now, with its own filter

Im curious how long it will take to seed the new eheim filter if the old filter is running at the same time? Once its seeded ill just remove the old filter

Good strategy?

I just set up a new canister and actually just took about 1/2 of the media from my established (and pretty gunky, in need of a cleaning) canister filter to put in the new filter, and then the other half is all new filter media. So far, I haven't seen any spikes of anything.

If you're going with just letting them both run then yeah I agree I'd let them both run for at least a month. Is one of the filters moving to a new tank? I think I'd probably at least be sure to move SOME of the filter media over assuming thats the case.
