How many angels?

I have a planted 38 gallon tank with a pair of apistos and 4 ottos. I am heading to the lfs in a little bit to get an angel, or maybe 2. I would like to get 2 of them but am not sure if they will fight. They will be young ones, so there is no way to tell if they are male or female. So...........if I get two of them do you think they would be ok if they were both male or both female? Or should I just get one? I also plan on adding some pencilfish to the tank if the lfs ever gets any in.

I'd get just one.

While two can be OK together, even if they're not a pair, it's a gamble. Also, if you end up with a breeding pair, it can be tough on the tankmates when they defend their eggs.

LOL, I think so. The lfs that I'm going to specializes in discus, angels and fancy plecs. And they have a lot of altums in stock! I guess I'll decide for sure when I get there, but that's what I'm planning

I was really good I only got one altum, even though the lady told me that they are a 'schooling' fish and should really be kept in groups. I got 4 zebra loaches too though

in a big enough tank a group would look stunning, but in a tank your size one would perfect. an altum! how much did that set you back?

He was $15 because I got the medium sized one. He's still pretty dull colored because he's settling in, but once he brightens up I'll take some pics. He seems to change colors pretty quickly, from really dark stripes to really pale stripes.
