how many can i put in a 5 and a half gallon tank

How many African cichlids can i put into a 5 and a half gallon tank. Also how quickly do they reproduce.

Depends on the species.

yellow african about 2 in. long

Yellow lab (Labidochromis caeruleus). Gets about 5 or 6 inches.

Don't get the fish until you have the 55gal. A 5.5 gallon tank is too small for mbuna for ANY length of time, unless we're talking 2 week old fry.
