I am FINALLY getting ready to hook up my Rena XP3 canister filter (after an exhausting effort to get mounting clips for the intake/exhaust). I want to keep my current filters running while the XP3 is 'conditioned.' Right now the 46g tank is filtered by 2 Magnum HOT 250s, combining for 500gph of filtration. Is it going to hurt anything if I just add on the extra 350gph the XP3 will provide, or should I remove one of the HOT Magnums? I was thinking of keeping one of the Magnums running to power my biowheels, while relying on the XP3 to do most of the filtering.

I currently 'turn the water over' 10.9 times per hour (when the filters are perfectly clean). Adding the XP3 to this will up that to 18.5x.

Opinoins?

To answer a question with a question...
Will there be significant currents produced with all this filtration?

My speculative 2 cents would have to be:
As long as the water movement is not overwhelming the inhabitants it's fine.
The bio-wheels will cut some of the direct current and you may need to cut it further until the removal of 1 of the HOTs.
