Can you give more details - as far as how big the tank is, how many/what kind of fish, etc?

What I did when I moved was transfer the tank water into a cooler and then added a few pieces of PVC pipe (for hiding) and the fish. I used a battery-powered air pump during the transport. I wrapped my tanks in towels. My move was not far, so it wasn't that big of a deal. Search the forum for moving - NoH20Delta had a really good thread a long while back about his move.

Sorry I did not think about you guys needing more info it has been a long day at the office. LOL It is a 10 gal, I have 1 Male/ 1Female Guppy, 1 Male/1 Female Swordtails, 4 Glofish, and 1 male betta.

EDT: Just wanted to add I know that may be more than should be in the tank but they will be going into a 20 gallon long once I get there.

Oh how I love that drive across I-40 *SICK*

When we move back to KY it was about a 4.5 hour drive, I put my fish in the Styrofoam containers LFS get fish shipped in. A styrofoam cooler would work just the same. We also used battery operated air pumps for aeration. We had a few losses from heat, but the vast majority of 50+ fish made it fine.

The betta should be the easiest thing to transport. Those guys get shipped to us in plastic cups and their shipped from Illinoise to Maryland.

I would just make sure you don't hit any bumps on the road and also try to limit how many stops you make. That way you don't take longer. Sort of obvious though, lol.

Thanks guys I am going to put them in a cooler. This is going to be an adventure for sure I have the fish and 2 small dogs and one big dog as well as all my stuff to take. Does anyone know something I can give my big dog so he does not get car sick? I know this is a fish forum but thought maybr some of you would have dogs to.

Home Depot sells a 5g bucket called the "Homer Bucket" for $3.99 or so with a top for another $1.99. I used these when I moved my fish and they are also useful for water changes, aclimatization and storage of nets and stuff.

Styrofoam is too fragile and I would not trust an insulated cooler not to leak from the valve. Neither are designed to hold water for extended periods of time.

Has your dog ever been in the car before? If not, take him/her for a ride every day before your trip and he/she will be fine.
