I've got a nature aquarium book that has a tank like that. It uses the bamboo and everything (polyurethaned first, of course). It also uses Myriophyllum sp., ludwigia repens, lots of hydrotocotyle leucocephela (which I think the tank you showed def. needs), stargrass and I might see some dwarf lobelia in there (?). It also has some big hunks of...slate like material....but its more the shape of granite. Hm...
The fish it suggests are a bunch of gourami sp., kuhli loaches, harlequin rasboras, pygmy rasboras and Rasbora hengeli aka "Slender rasboras".
