So I did a 60% water change cuz of my new fishies only to discover that once the water gets below a certain level the XP3 filter shuts off. (Guess that's kinda obvious, huh?) Anyway, I'm not worried, I just continue with the water change and then clean out the filter and add the new bio and put it all back together. So I start adding fresh water and it gets above the intake and...nothing happens.

I'm slightly confused.

Well, I think, maybe it just needs a little more water in the tank to start up. I add more water. 10-15 more gallons or so...still nothing. Hmmm. I'm starting to get worried now.

I search for the directions. Surely I've done everything correctly, I mean, it's a pretty simple, straitforward process, right? I find the directions.

Clean filter. check.

Add water. check.

Latch lid. check.

Prime pump. check.

Plug back in - oops.

My bad. It's working now.

Sometimes my pump won't come back until the tank is almost full. Can you pour water directly into it to cause what's called a "priming" effect to help it get started? Question: I have my Betta in a tank with Gouramis and they get along just fine. Do you ever have issues with yours?
