I BOUGHT A 55 gal TONITE!!!

#1
yes, oh yes im excited to go from a 10gal to a 55! i'm proud of myself, i got it to fit in my little car, and drug it in my house, and down the steps! it was a kit they came with the lids, lights, filter, heater, thermomiter, water conditioner, fish food, and a net*thumbsups i got it all for $174.99, im not sure if thats a good price or not, anyways, i had some questions (im sure i have more once i get this thing up in running).. first off i ran into a problem that the intake tube that runs in the filter, wont connect to the rest of the intake tube that is sopose to attach to it, (they are the same thickness so they can connect)...

If i dump all my water from my 10 gal into my 50, will my fish be okay since it wont be complety cycled?

do you sugest me to float my old filter pad in my 50 to get the good bacteria or whatever?

my new filter came with carbon, should i put it in?

what brand/style blub do you sugest for a good color, but good for plants (my bulbs now look pink!)

i cant wait to get this thing started... my LFS is AWESOME www.thatfishplace.com they have hundreds of freshwater and saltwater fish, this place is the size of a wallmart! check it out! you can order fish and everything else online! *BOUNCINGS

What type is your new filter? Might help us help you with the equipment question. There's usually a connector between pieces that is a different size on things like that...or one end of the tube is slightly smaller than the other end.

I wouldn't put carbon in it...just hang on to it until you need to use it for something.

Read up in the planted forum about different lights...I'm sure there's been some discussion on it in there.

If you put all of the water, all of the decorations and the filter pad from your 10G and DONT ADD ANY FISH (except the ones you already have) then yes, they'll be fine in the 55. I'd definitely be careful not to let any chlorinated or really hot/really cold water touch anything from the 10G just so you can hang on to as much bacteria as possible. I'd probably wait a week or two after everything settles before adding many additional fish.

Congrats on the new tank! :)

Congrats on the tank. :) That sounds like a good price.

The water from an established tank won't really help with the cycle. Hard surfaces like filter media, gravel, plants or ornaments will help kick-start the cycle in your new tank.

I wouldn't put the carbon in, it's not necessary. You can keep it for an emergency.

I'm horrible with bulb recommendations, as I really don't have many standard bulbs in my tanks.
