the mystery snail is running around lol! but the apple is not moving at all. my johanni is rubbing up against it so i may move him/her into the other tank to see if that is the problem.

Most snails are more nocturnal, at least mine is. I have a huge apple snail in my 20g with my turtles, and I rarely see him moving around. He only really comes out at night and eats leftover scraps, or when I add more live plants for snacks for my turtles. Try adding an algae disk right before you turn you tank light off and see if he comes out.

my bad. i just read my johanni will eat him/her. thought i had done enough research but uh no. i moved him/her into the big tank now i am worried they wont have enough to eat as my tank is new with just a few tetras. sigh. the mystery is moving around like mad and the apple has come out of his shell so to speak.

The snail will eat fish food too. And it will even learn to swim to the surface for it as long as there are no predatory fish or turtles present.
Apple snails are pretty active unless they could become a meal.

most apple snails will eat veggies, mine love spinich, not many fish care for the roughage so this ensures the snail gets its share of food

however i wouldn't recomend feeding apples veggies if you plan on keeping them in a planted tank cause once they get to like the greens and they run out the snail will eat all the aquarium plants
